Looking for Signs: ideas and imagined circumstances by Jimmy Cosgrove, accompanies the exhibition curated by Fraser Taylor, Alison Harley and Louise Briggs. New pieces appear alongside a selection of past works, spanning fifty years of a vibrant career that demonstrates Jimmy’s diversity of practice as both an artist and designer.
The publication we designed echoes the artist’s distinct approach to his practice – gathering, sifting, writing, re-imagining – and draws inspiration from Jimmy’s incredibly vibrant body of sketchbooks – that contain a treasure trove of collages, paintings and writing.
Rich visual content is presented alongside the contributions of practitioners and historians. From the critical analysis of his personal and intimate journals by Frances Robertson, to a photo essay by photographer Callum Rice, that intimately documents Cosgrove’s home, studio and context.
